Ultrasound Guided Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy:
Case Selection and Approach

Paul H. Levesque, MD
Assistant Professor of Radiology
and Biomedical Imaging
Yale New Haven Hospital
New Haven, CT

Dr. Levesque is an innovator in the areas of breast imaging and interventional procedures. He will be focusing this session specifically on ultrasound guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB). Information on lesion selection, techniques for sampling, and challenging cases will be presented. In addition, patient benefits and workflow advantages with VABB will be discussed. A review of data on upgrade rates of 14G automated-needle biopsy versus vacuum-assisted breast biopsy will conclude the session.

  • Lesion selection for ultrasound guided vacuum-assisted biopsy (VABB)
  • Challenging cases and VABB-calcifications, intra-ductal masses, radial scars
  • Technique for adequately sampling smaller lesions
  • Patient benefits with VABB
  • Workflow advantages with VABB
  • Review of the data-upgrade rates of 14G automated needle biopsy versus VABB

Why Should You Attend?

Minimally invasive breast biopsy procedures have continued to increase in adoption as the advantages such as reduced cost, shorter procedure and quick return for the patient to normal activities have proven advantageous. Specifically, ultrasound guided breast biopsy is experiencing growth in adoption due to enhancements in imaging technology and approaches. Healthcare professionals who are interested in learning more about the techniques, applications and advantages associated with ultrasound guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy and patient benefits will want to view the presentation.
